The Harvey Norman Women in League initiative aims to celebrate the role of women in Rugby League. Over 140,000 women and girls have a direct connection with Rugby League - whether it be as administrators, players, coaches, employees, volunteers or club members- women really are at the heart of the game.
Going in to its seventh year, the culmination of celebrations occurs at the Harvey Norman Women in League Round. The 2013 Women in League Round will be in Round 10 (May 14-20).
Players, coaches, referees and fans all get involved and turn the game pink not only to celebrate the role of women in the game but also to raise money for many worthy charities including the McGrath Foundation.
In 2012, their annual 'Pull On Your Socks' campaign raised more than $100,000 through the support of Rugby League clubs and individuals.
Supporters of the Women in League initiative can be found at all levels of the game. To recognise and thank these special individuals, two awards are given each year.
The Favourite Son Award is given to a deserving NRL player who possesses outstanding qualities of sportsmanship both on and off the field and the Women in League Achievement Award which is given to a woman who has made a significant contribution to the game's development.
